Along with my husband, my family and books, language is my passion. In fact, by day I’m a mild-mannered language teacher. Currently I teach ESL (English as a Second Language) to international students, but in my early teaching days, my main subject was French. My French is a bit rusty these days, but I figure a trip to France would help fix that. I’ve also studied Russian, Spanish and Italian. This love of language spills over into my writing craft and appreciation for books—and travel!

I get to satisfy the travel bug with trips to England—as often as possible!— to visit my son, daughter-in-law and two fabulous grandsons. It’s great when Lee, my Handsome Husband (HH), also goes because driving on the left side of the road doesn’t intimidate him—talk about your basic hero type! I also have to travel to see my daughter, who lives in New Jersey—a mere continent away from my home in near San Francisco.

A low-tech Scorpio, I’m thrilled my HH is a high-tech Taurus. Without his support, I’d have destroyed numerous innocent computers and would still be pounding away on my ancient typewriter. In addition, I’m eternally grateful to critique partners and to all the friends I’ve made through RWA (Romance Writers of America). Being a published member of the community of writers is the fulfillment of one of my most cherished dreams. Another big dream—to win an Oscar—is still pending.

Writing as Mardi Ballou, I’m the author of more than two dozen hot, spicy romances—see www.MardiBallou.com. I also wrote two mainstream books as Mardi (for more info on those, see Books). To differentiate the two types, I’ve now decided to write my women’s fiction and contemporary romances as Meg Bellamy.
